The name derives from the Latin word <em>tortillare<\/em>, meaning \u201cto wrap\u201d, a reference to the characteristic design from the lathe used in pasta manufacturing. <em>Tortiglioni<\/em> pasta is part of the <em>maccheroni<\/em> family and is one of the oldest shapes in Italy, and just as <em>rigatoni<\/em>, it can be paired with a wide range of sauces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Cooking Time<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>12 minutes<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Region of Origin<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s difficult to pinpoint the origins of this type of pasta: it most probably comes from the south of Italy, quite possibly form Campania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Best Pairings<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Tortiglioni can be paired with all types of sauces, especially with the most thick and robust, rich and creamy, such as ragu or creamy and cheesy sauces. Great to prepare oven baked dishes <em>au gratin<\/em>. The hollow inside and the groovy outside perfectly capture any sauce.
